Jurgen Klopp outlines why Liverpool could be vulnerable under Arne Slot

Jurgen Klopp has shared his thoughts on why Liverpool could be “at risk of being exposed” under Arne Slot. The Dutchman has enjoyed a dreamlike start to life at Anfield, guiding the Reds to the Premier League title last season and opening this campaign with a perfect run of seven wins across all competitions

However, cracks appeared at Selhurst Park on Saturday, as Crystal Palace handed Liverpool a 2-1 defeat. Klopp has now raised the alarm, offering his perspective on the areas where Slot’s high-octane approach could leave the champions vulnerable.

Smooth sailing turns shaky in London

Liverpool’s flawless streak came to an abrupt halt against Palace, who asserted dominance early on. Ismaila Sarr put the hosts ahead from a corner, with Liverpool relying on Alisson’s heroics to stay in the game. Federico Chiesa then scored what appeared to be a late equaliser, slotting home after VAR denied a Mohamed Salah handball claim.

The drama wasn’t over. In the final minutes, Will Hughes delivered a long throw that was flicked into danger, allowing Eddie Nketiah to lash the ball past Alisson and spark wild celebrations among the home crowd. The result marked Liverpool’s first defeat of the season and offered a stark reality check.

Klopp’s assessment and warning signs

Watching from the sidelines, Klopp stopped short of harsh criticism but highlighted the risks of Slot’s offensive style. Speaking to The Athletic, he noted:

> “Liverpool is playing a specific style, so really, really good. Very offensive oriented. Do they take the risk a little bit of being exposed? Different ways to go… I’m not the pope of football who tells people what to do.”

Slot’s tactics have clearly paid dividends—seven wins from seven in 2025-26, combined with last season’s title, demonstrate his success. Yet Selhurst Park revealed a potential vulnerability on set-pieces that opponents will be eager to exploit.

Liverpool now travel to Turkey to face Galatasaray in the Champions League, a match that could test Slot’s resilience. Klopp’s observations will likely linger if the Reds show the same susceptibility in dead-ball situations, making this clash a key measure of the champions’ adaptability anddefensive solidity.
