Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai has had a busy 18 months away from football, tying the knot and welcoming a child following his breakup with Fanni Gecsek.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s career on Merseyside is going from strength to strength, but off the pitch, life has been just as rewarding for the Hungarian star. The Liverpool midfielder is now settling into family life after marrying Borka Buzsik and recently becoming a father for the first time.
The couple’s romance blossomed quickly. They went public with their relationship in July 2024, shortly after Hungary’s exit from the Euros in Germany. By October, Szoboszlai had proposed at a luxury Budapest hotel, and just a few months later they were husband and wife.
The wedding, held in March this year, was kept relatively private until Szoboszlai himself revealed it on Instagram. Sharing elegant black-and-white photos, he simply captioned the post with “2025.03.25” alongside a red heart, confirming his marriage to Buzsik.
Only weeks ago, their happiness grew even further when the couple welcomed a baby girl. In a touching post, Szoboszlai wrote: “Your birth means the world to me. Thank you, my love, for bringing her into our life,” alongside a picture of them holding their newborn’s hand.
Buzsik and Szoboszlai’s low-key love story
Unlike many footballers’ partners, Buzsik has kept her social media presence fairly low profile. With just 13 posts on Instagram, most of which feature her and her husband, she has still attracted over 84,000 followers. One post from 2022 showed her graduating from Budapest’s Corvinus University, highlighting her academic background.
Before finding love with Buzsik, Szoboszlai had been in a long-term relationship with model, influencer and ex-tennis player Fanni Gecsek. The pair reportedly met while he was playing for Red Bull Salzburg in Austria back in 2020.
Gecsek once pursued a sporting career of her own, competing in ITF tennis tournaments between 2017 and 2019. Eventually, she switched focus to modelling and social media, building a glamorous lifestyle with nearly 85,000 followers and dividing her time between Budapest and Milan.
Like Buzsik, she is also highly educated, holding a Master’s degree in Luxury Fashion and Brand Marketing alongside International Sports Management. Though she stayed in Hungary while Szoboszlai made his Liverpool switch, the exact reasons for their split remain private.
Szoboszlai’s growing Liverpool legacy
Despite their breakup, Gecsek still showed signs of following Szoboszlai’s career. When Romeo Lavia chose Chelsea over Liverpool, she liked a viral Instagram post comparing the Belgian’s decision with Szoboszlai’s passion for the Reds, something eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed.
Now, Szoboszlai has put all of that firmly behind him as he thrives in Liverpool colours. Since joining from RB Leipzig in 2023, the Hungarian has become a vital figure in midfield, with his energy and creativity giving the Reds another dimension.
After Liverpool’s thrilling 3-2 Champions League win over Atletico Madrid in midweek, attention now turns to Saturday’s Merseyside derby at Anfield, where Szoboszlai is expected to play another key role.
Manager Arne Slot has even placed a £100m valuation on the 24-year-old, highlighting his importance. When discussing the club’s £450m summer spending spree, Slot defended the outlay by pointing to Szoboszlai’s value, making it clear the midfielder has already repaid much of the faith placed in him.
