According to The Athletic, Slot wants two top-quality players for every role. It’s a smart strategy, but one that still needs fine-tuning—especially in defence. Jarell Quansah’s move to Bayer Leverkusen has left Liverpool with only three senior centre-backs. That’s not enough, and it also means the club is a bit short on homegrown talent. Which brings us to the name that keeps resurfacing.
Marc Guehi fits the bill perfectly. He’s English, Premier League-proven, and entering the final year of his contract at Crystal Palace. Reports say £45m could be enough to get the deal done, and Liverpool are seriously considering it.
No Time to Wait
Sure, £45m is steep for someone who could walk for free in a year. But if Guehi is Slot’s top choice—and it looks like he is—it’s a price worth paying to keep momentum going. Liverpool tasted success last season and want more, and depth in central defence will be key to competing across all fronts.
If this is what Slot needs to complete his squad, the board should pull the trigger.
