Arsenal and Barcelona were also keen, but the price tag scared them off. Liverpool went for Ekitike, Arsenal grabbed Gyokeres, and Barça loaned Rashford.
Now things have shifted again. Widespread reports say Isak has told Newcastle he wants out.

That opened the door for Liverpool to make a huge offer. They’ve already contacted Newcastle, willing to break their transfer record a second time this summer.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the club is in “active discussions” with Isak’s camp. As he puts it, the ball is now in Newcastle’s court.
Liverpool are ready to pay up to £120m for the 25-year-old. Isak scored 23 Premier League goals last season and continues to rise.
Diaz and Nunez Could Make Way
To balance the books, Liverpool may sell Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez. Diaz wants Bayern; Nunez is attracting big money from Saudi clubs.
That leaves space for a fresh front line. Isak up top, with Salah and Wirtz behind him, could be terrifying for Premier League defences.
And with Ekitike as backup, Arne Slot would have serious firepower. If this deal lands, Liverpool might just dominate for years to come.
