Liverpool Eyeing Defensive Reinforcements

As Liverpool continue reshaping their squad under Arne Slot, attention has turned to the heart of defence — an area that still feels one signing short following the departure of Jarell Quansah.

In recent weeks, Marc Guehi has emerged as a top target, with talks reportedly progressing as the Reds look to bolster their centre-back options. Crystal Palace are holding out for at least £40 million, but Liverpool appear to be in pole position for the England international.

The need is clear. While Virgil van Dijk remains a rock at the back, and Ibrahima Konaté is a solid partner when fit, questions still hang over the long-term availability of Joe Gomez, who has struggled with injuries and consistency. Jarell Quansah’s exit only highlights the thinness of the position — especially with a season that will include Champions League football and multiple domestic competitions.

Adding Guehi would not only offer quality and composure but also provide much-needed depth and reliability, especially with Gomez’s unpredictable availability. It’s a signing that fits both the club’s short-term demands and long-term planning.

The deal may not be done yet, but with Liverpool’s recruitment team moving swiftly this summer, Guehi’s arrival feels like a matter of when — not if.
