Liverpool transfer-round up as Reds close in on £40m star and Hugo Ekitike delay explained

Liverpool have had another busy week in the transfer window, securing two more signings as Milos Kerkez and Freddie Woodman checked

With Liverpool’s summer spending fast approaching the £200m mark, many expected the focus to shift toward player sales to help balance the books. But even with exits looming — particularly that of Jarell Quansah — there’s still room at Anfield for one or two more major arrivals.

Here’s the latest from Saturday’s Liverpool rumour mill:

Marc Guehi Deal Heating Up

The most immediate concern is at centre-back. With Quansah close to finalising his move away, Liverpool are pushing ahead in their pursuit of Marc Guehi.

According to The Mirror, the Reds are now closing in on a deal, with key talks ongoing this weekend between all parties. Palace are holding firm on a £40m valuation, but Liverpool are said to be leading the race for the England international’s signature despite competition elsewhere.

Slot has made Guehi a top priority, and with Quansah expected to leave soon, the timing of this move lines up perfectly.

Isak Still in Sight

While signing Guehi would go a long way toward completing Liverpool’s defensive rebuild, fans are still watching the striker situation closely.

The dream signing? Alexander Isak.

A new update from the Newcastle Chronicle claims Liverpool are not backing away from the idea of a move, despite the massive financial hurdles. Journalists on Merseyside are reportedly being told not to rule out a potential offer in July.

Newcastle’s PSR situation, paired with Liverpool’s flexibility in the market, keeps this deal on the radar — especially if Darwin Núñez is sold.

Ekitike on Hold — But Not Off

While Isak remains the priority, Hugo Ekitike is still hovering as a more affordable alternative. According to Caught Offside, the delay in advancing for the Frankfurt striker is tied directly to negotiations with Napoli over Núñez.

Liverpool and Napoli are believed to be £10m apart in valuation. Should an agreement be reached, Liverpool are expected to ramp up their interest in Ekitike.

For now, it’s a waiting game — but Ekitike remains very much in the picture if the Isak option fades.

Outgoings: Doak and Elliott Updates

There were also developments regarding possible exits:
• Ben Doak is reportedly keen on a permanent move away from Liverpool this summer, with Liverpool.com reporting that Everton are among the interested clubs. The young winger wants regular Premier League football and doesn’t see a clear path to minutes under Slot.
• As for Harvey Elliott, German reporter Philipp Hinze has shut down speculation linking him with RB Leipzig. No contact or negotiations are underway as things stand.

• 🔄 Marc Guehi deal progressing, Liverpool confident
• 💣 Alexander Isak bid not ruled out for July
• ⏳ Hugo Ekitike on hold, dependent on Núñez’s Napoli move
• 🚪 Ben Doak pushing for permanent exit; Elliott not in Leipzig talks

Liverpool may have already landed seven signings, but there’s still plenty of action left in this window. And based on the latest movement, Slot’s first summer in charge could still have a few twists to come.
