The 22-year-old has made no secret of his desire to play regular football. Despite showing flashes of brilliance at Liverpool, opportunities have been limited. That’s been especially frustrating given his standout performances for England’s U21s, where he recently scored twice in a semi-final win over the Netherlands to help the team into the Euros final.
Unsurprisingly, that form has attracted serious interest. Several Premier League clubs are said to be monitoring Elliott, and according to The Athletic, Liverpool are open to selling — but only if the price is right. The Reds have reportedly set a £40 million valuation and won’t accept anything less.
It could prove to be a tidy bit of business for Liverpool, who only paid Fulham a compensation fee of £1.5 million back in 2021, with potential add-ons of up to £2.8 million depending on his development. Now, with a big summer ahead, Elliott might just be their latest profitable export.
Plenty in the football world think it’s the right time for a move. Former England striker Jermain Defoe praised Elliott on Channel 4 after his latest England display, saying: “He’s too good to not be playing. When you’re producing like this in big tournaments, clubs take notice. He needs to be at a team where he’s the guy — week in, week out.”
Joe Cole echoed those thoughts, saying he’d love to see Elliott take the next step in his career: “He’s done a great job for Liverpool, but he’s got more to give. He looks so happy and confident — we need to see that every week.”
