Anthony Gordon has bromance with Liverpool star after failed transfer attempt

Anthony Gordon’s growing friendship with a Liverpool star is turning heads even though a potential transfer between the Reds and Newcastle ultimately fell through

Jones & Gordon: From Academy Lads to England’s Tightest Duo

It’s always refreshing when footballers show a bit of personality off the pitch — and Curtis Jones and Anthony Gordon have done exactly that. The Liverpool and Newcastle men, currently on England duty, opened up about their close friendship this week, and honestly, it’s hard not to smile reading about it.

The pair go way back — all the way to their academy days. Gordon might not have made the cut at Liverpool back then, but that didn’t stop the bond from forming. Fast forward a few years, and both are now carving out serious careers in the Premier League. Different clubs, same energy.

Now with England, they’re inseparable. Literally. In an interview with ITV Sport, Gordon joked: “Probably every second. Unless we’re showering or asleep, we’re together.” Jones laughed and backed it up: “Yeah, or asleep — that’s it!”

Apparently, they even have a rule — no hiding away in rooms. Gordon explained: “We don’t go in our rooms, that’s a rule. If we’re not in training or meetings, we’re together. Sometimes just sat chatting for hours, or winding the lads up.”

When asked whose name goes first, they answered in sync: “Jones and Gordon” — because Curtis is older. Fair enough.

Their bromance goes deeper than just banter, though. In a recent British GQ piece, Jones was asked if he had any mates in the football world. His answer? “Anthony Gordon is probably my only best mate in football.”

But that friendship also comes with a bit of fashion advice. “He’s trying to change me,” Jones said. “Telling me, ‘You’re a dad now — time to dress a bit more mature.’” Apparently, it’s working. Curtis has stepped his wardrobe game up. “At first I was like, ‘I could never dress like that.’ But the more he was around, explaining his style, I was like… alright, fair play.”

And then there’s the elephant in the room: Gordon’s links to Liverpool. He grew up a Red — no secret there — and despite being a product of Everton’s academy, he’s never hidden his true colours. In fact, he came this close to a move back to Merseyside in 2024. He’s signed a new deal at Newcastle, but whispers of a Liverpool switch still swirl.

Would he fit at Anfield? No doubt. And with that Scouse fire in his belly, he’d feel right at home. But whether it happens might hinge on what Liverpool do with Luis Díaz — and considering they just turned down a Barcelona bid, it’s safe to say they’re not in a hurry to let him go.

Still, never say never in football. One thing’s for sure: if Gordon ever does pull on the red shirt again, Jones will be the first one waiting with a grin and an inside joke.
