The Reds have let seven of their academy players go as preparation for the new season begin in earnest, while eight of of young stars have been offered new contracts to stay
Liverpool Confirm Departure of Seven Academy Players as Youth Reshuffle Begins
Liverpool have officially announced the departure of seven Academy players following the expiration of their contracts, as the club continues to reshape its youth setup under new head coach Arne Slot.
Dominic Corness, Louis Enahoro-Marcus, Harry Evers, Lee Jonas, Jakub Ojrzynski, Jacob Poytress, and Reece Trueman have all left the newly crowned Premier League champions. None of the departing players made a competitive first-team appearance during their time at Anfield.
Of the group, 22-year-old midfielder Dominic Corness came closest to breaking through, having featured in a mid-season friendly against Lyon in December 2022. The Liverpool-born player had loan spells with Swiss club Yverdon Sport and League Two side Gillingham.
Polish goalkeeper Jakub Ojrzynski, also 22, was on the bench for Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Sheffield United in February 2021. He spent time on loan with five clubs across Europe, including Caernarfon Town (Wales), Radomiak Radom (Poland), Den Bosch (Netherlands), Spartakos Kitiou (Cyprus), and Utsiktens BK (Sweden).
Meanwhile, Liverpool have offered new contracts to eight promising talents: Kareem Ahmed, Emmanuel Airoboma, Keyrol Figueroa, Kyle Kelly, Michael Laffey, Wellity Lucky, Terence Miles, and Ranel Young.
There is particular excitement around Keyrol Figueroa, a U.S. youth international and son of former Premier League defender Maynor Figueroa, and Ranel Young, who made the bench for the Reds’ Carabao Cup win over Brighton last October.
Slot’s first-team squad will report for pre-season training on July 7, with a friendly scheduled against Preston North End at Deepdale on July 13. The club will then head to Japan for a summer tour.
Liverpool have already completed their first summer signing, securing right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. Negotiations are ongoing for a potential club-record deal for Florian Wirtz, while Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is also on the Reds’ radar and could be the next arrival at Anfield.
