Liverpool Hold Talks Over Move for Germany Forward Nick Woltemade

With Florian Wirtz’s move to Anfield reportedly “99% done” according to sources in Germany, Liverpool fans have been buzzing over the potential arrival of one of Europe’s brightest young playmakers. But it now seems the Reds could be eyeing a second German international — this time from the frontline.

Liverpool in the Mix for Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade

As reported by CaughtOffside, Liverpool have initiated contact over a possible summer move for Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade. The 23-year-old, who recently made his senior Germany debut in their UEFA Nations League clash with Portugal (a game where Wirtz also scored), is attracting attention from several top clubs.

Arsenal, West Ham, Brighton, Everton, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Napoli, and Roma are all monitoring Woltemade, with Stuttgart expected to demand around €50 million (£42.1m) for his services.

Initial talks have reportedly been held, and Liverpool’s interest is believed to be “genuine” as they consider their options up front.

Could Woltemade Be the Right Fit for Liverpool?

At a fee significantly lower than what it would take to land players like Alexander Isak or Hugo Ekitike, Woltemade might present Liverpool with a more financially viable option in the market — especially if Darwin Nunez is sold this summer, as widely expected.

Though not as proven as Isak or Ekitike, Woltemade has enjoyed a breakout year. Standing at 6’6”, the Stuttgart frontman has impressed with his power, movement, and ability to deliver in key moments. He was instrumental in Stuttgart’s DFB-Pokal triumph and scored a hat-trick against Spain for Germany U21s back in March.

He finished the 2024/25 season with 17 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions — including goals in Stuttgart’s final three Bundesliga fixtures. According to Transfermarkt, those numbers make him one of the Bundesliga’s standout strikers this past season.

Statistically Impressive

Woltemade’s numbers are impressive when compared to other strikers linked with Liverpool. Per FBref:
• Shot accuracy: 50% of his shots hit the target — better than Isak (43.2%), Ekitike (38.6%), and Sesko (43.9%).
• Shot-creating actions per 90: 4.38 — higher than Isak (3.01), Ekitike (3.55), and Sesko (1.93).

Those numbers paint the picture of a clinical and creative striker — attributes Liverpool would be eager to add if Nunez departs.

Wirtz Reunion Could Help

Should Florian Wirtz complete his highly anticipated move to Anfield in the coming days, the presence of his international teammate could be a factor in drawing Woltemade to Merseyside. Their understanding on the pitch could be a major asset for Arne Slot as he reshapes the Reds’ attack.

With plenty of interest from across Europe and Liverpool already laying early groundwork, this is certainly a transfer story to keep an eye on in the weeks ahead.
