Arne Slot must, again, decide whether to start Trent Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool finish the season at home to Crystal Palace
Arne Slot must, again, decide whether to start Trent Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool finish the season at home to Crystal Palace.
The Reds, who sealed the Premier League title with a 5-1 win over Tottenham last month, take on the FA Cup winners in what is now a dress rehearsal for August’s Community Shield season-curtain raiser.
Liverpool have suffered a slight dip since being crowned champions of England.
They slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Arsenal, and then lost away at Brighton on Monday night despite leading twice.
Alexander-Arnold made the trip to the Amex Stadium but did not make an appearance off the bench, and a clip of the defender looking very emotional at full-time has gone viral.
Having already announced he will be leaving Liverpool when his contract expires, it means Sunday’s game will be his Anfield send-off.
However, he did receive a mixed response on his last Anfield appearance against Arsenal, and Slot joked that he may leave Alexander-Arnold out once again as an early present to Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid.
Team news:
Alexis Mac Allister will not feature, but Joe Gomez is in line to make his first appearance since limping off in the shock FA Cup fourth-round loss to Plymouth back in February.
Gomez was an unused substitute in the previous match.
