Liverpool stepping up pursuit of ‘exceptional’ Brazil international after agents spotted in meeting

Liverpool are already looking lively in the transfer market as they close in on what is set to be a big summer for recruitment

With the Reds on the verge of winning the Premier League title, focus should rightly be on ensuring the team get over the line in the coming days and weeks.

But beyond that, it seems that moves are already being made to make Liverpool even stronger next season.

Milos Kerkez looks likely to join while the race for Dean Huijsen is getting frantic more than a month before the window even thinks about opening.

The arrivals of Kerkez and Huijsen would help to re-tool a Liverpool defence which has started to age a little. But while additions at left and centre-back are expected, the Reds are also very likely to be on the hunt for a new right-back this summer

With Trent Alexander-Arnold on his way to Real Madrid, Liverpool need another option. And according to the Brazilian press, the Reds are continuing in their pursuit of Flamengo’s Wesley Franca

Liverpool meet with Wesley’s agents

Liverpool have two options for their recruitment at right-back this summer. They can either go for a new, expensive starter or they can bring in a younger, more inexperienced option to battle it out with Conor Bradley.

For now, the preference would appear to be the latter. There are lots of potential additions for Liverpool, with Wesley reportedly one of those on the list

After interest in the Brazil international was reported back in February, RTI Esporte now claim that Liverpool have met with Wesley’s agents to discuss a summer move.

They report that the Reds are seen as one of the strongest runners for the 21-year-old, although Man City are also said to be in the mix

Wesley’s agents are reportedly in England at the moment to meet with Premier League clubs and get an idea of their plans for the defender.

However, although Flamengo are claimed to be expecting to lose Wesley in the near future, they will reportedly not allow the full-back to leave before this summer’s Club World Cup.

Wesley’s agents spotted in England

Claims of Wesley’s agents currently being in England are backed up by Brazilian journalist Bruno Lemos, who shared a post on X from the represenatives

“About Wesley. As previously anticipated, the player is being coveted by Liverpool and Manchester United,” says Lemos, alongside a photo. “Their representatives travelled to England.”

As Liverpool assess the best succession plan for Alexander-Arnold, Wesley would feel like a smart addition.

Flamengo manager Filipe Luis called Wesley ‘exceptional‘ earlier this season and he is already a regular in the former Chelsea defender’s team. He may not be quite ready to be a starter at Anfield, but he would certainly provide strong competition for Bradley.

It’s still early days, but it’s heartening to see that some small steps are being made ahead of the window.
