Liverpool duo Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have offered contrasting views on the differences between Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot as Reds manager
Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have shared their thoughts on the transition from Jurgen Klopp to Arne Slot, with each player offering a unique perspective. As Klopp departed at the conclusion of the last season, fans were left wondering about the future.
Yet, Slot has taken over the reins with surprising ease, stepping into Klopp’s considerable shoes and now just a whisker away from clinching the Premier League title, having already guided Liverpool to the Carabao Cup final
The change in tactical direction is clear, but the midfield duo have given contrasting views on the switch from Klopp to Slot. Szoboszlai was reserved and diplomatic when asked by Sky Sports to compare the two managers, while Mac Allister openly embraced the new energy brought in by Slot
“I don’t compare them with each other,” Szoboszlai remarked about Slot and Klopp. “They are both unbelievable managers. Jurgen had a different style of playing football than the manager has now
“So, that’s why football is beautiful. Everybody is different. Probably all the coaches in the whole world are working on something different than the others. I never compare my coaches between each other.”
Meanwhile, Mac Allister, in a conversation with La Media Inglesa, highlighted a significant shift in Liverpool’s tactical approach following Klopp’s exit and the introduction of Slot – the Dutchman earning accolades for revitalising the team’s playing style
“I think the main difference is that before we were a very, very direct team, and today we’re a team where we try to be a little more patient and a little more possessive,” Mac Allister remarked
“With the quality of the players we have, with the physical capacity of the players we have, having possession and, at times, being able to rest with the ball has helped us a lot to be more fresh
Mac Allister, more open to discussing the changes than Szoboszlai, pinpointed this strategic move towards a possession-based system as the crucial alteration under Slot, setting it apart from Klopp’s focus on quick transitions.
Additionally, Slot himself offered his perspective during a Sky Sports interview, explaining his tactics and how they diverge from Klopp’s emphasis on intense transitions
