Arne Slot tipped to sign ‘at least’ four players as Harvey Elliott sent Liverpool transfer message

Liverpool is expected to have a busy summer with plenty of movement in the transfer market. But John Aldridge is keen for one player to stay and get more of a chance

Liverpool could be in for a busy summer, even though the Reds are closing in on another Premier League title. And while players will be signed, there are big decisions to be made on outgoings as well.

Across much of the Liverpool roster, Arne Slot and his sporting director, Richard Hughes, will have to get the balance right when it comes to upgrades and bolstering. Much will come down to which players draw big enough offers, while some might be more keen than others on an exit, depending on how much game time they have received this season

John Aldridge, though, while he is anticipating much movement on the incoming front, is keen for one player not to leave. That is despite him hardly having been given a chance by Slot so far during the Dutchman’s tenure.

I really like Harvey Elliott,” the Reds legend wrote in his Liverpool ECHO column. “I don’t want to criticize the manager, but I can’t for the life of me understand why he hasn’t had more game time. He is a game-changer.

He’s so talented. I just hope that he’s part of the manager’s fans going forward. He’s a Liverpool fan and he wants to stay at the club. He wants game time. He doesn’t want to go anywhere, I know that for an absolute fact. I’d just like to see him get more of an opportunity.”

Number nine and left-back appear to be strong candidates for improvements when the summer window opens. Other positions could become priorities too depending on who leaves.

“There will be at least four new players coming in this summer — at least four,” Aldridge continued. “There will be players going out too, 100 per cent, because we balance the books. There will be a lot of money coming

Most of the pundits and supporters have an idea of the players who will go out. I just don’t want to see Harvey go out. I hope he stays.

“But there will be at least four players who go out and at least four who come in. At least four. And that’s not including the goalkeeper we already know is coming in.”
