The Reds could soon have another record broken by a youngster this season
Rio Ngumoha was probably the most exciting signing of the summer for Liverpool. Having arrived from Chelsea with a lot of hype, he was seen as a massive coup.
And we’ve already born witness to why that isn’t just a theory but a fact. Ngumoha looks like one of the biggest talents in European football at the moment based on what he has shown at Liverpool.
At academy level, he has set unprecedented heights. Meanwhile, he’s also regularly training with the first team and as Anfield Watch revealed exclusively, even forcing the club’s media department to edit out footage from the Inside Training videos series in a bid to contain the hype around him
Already, Ngumoha has broken a Liverpool record by becoming the youngest player ever to make an appearance for the Reds in the FA Cup
His appearance against Accrington was a huge success as well, with Ngumoha really showcasing his elusive one vs one ability, constantly driving at his opponents to make things happen.
Now Ngumoha could be closing in on another record-breaking move at the club in what would be a fitting moment for the 16-year-old.
Why Ngumoha could break Liverpool Premier League record
Liverpool are closing in on the Premier League title and need just one win in order to mathematically secure the club’s 20th league title.
A win against Tottenham is all it will take for Liverpool to be able to pull of a historic achievement. It would then mean Arne Slot’s side practically having nothing to play for in their last four games.
This would surely open up the opportunity of Slot finally rotating his squad and giving some of the young stars in his team an opportunity to shine.
Among the first on that list would be Ngumoha, who has been regularly training with the first team and who is playing even better at academy level, week in, week out
Most recently, he proved to be a very clutch player for Liverpool’s U21 side scoring a brace against Aston Villa to qualify the young Reds into the play offs of the U21 Premier League
Ngumoha’s two composed finishes showcased yet another side of him we haven’t really seen. These were his first two goals in a Liverpool shirt at league level and it highlights another step taken forward.
Those moments of magic will not have gone unnoticed by the Liverpool staff either. It definitely moves Ngumoha even closer to the chance of making his Premier League debut this season – especially with the Reds likely having nothing to play for soon
And if he does get the nod, Ngumoha also stands at breaking the club’s record for the youngest ever player in the Premier League.
Currently that record is being held by Jack Robinson. He was 16 years, 8 months and 7 days old when he made his debut against Hull City under Rafa Benitez.
If Ngumoha makes his debut against his former club, Chelsea on May 4th, he stands to break that record and become the youngest player for Liverpool at 16 years, 8 months and 4 days old.
