Dominik Szoboszlai makes Erling Haaland claim and Liverpool title admission – ‘I would lie’

Dominik Szoboszlai admits he is dreaming about winning the Premier League with Liverpool – and is already eyeing up further honours next season

Dominik Szoboszlai has admitted he is dreaming about winning the Premier League and wants to go even further and the treble with Liverpool next season. The Hungarian has been a star player for Arne Slot’s side as they close in on the title.

The 24-year-old boasts seven goals and five assists from 43 appearances in all competitions so far this season, and has been a virtual ever-present in the Premier League – missing only two matches.

The Reds are 13 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table and need just six games from their final six games to be crowned champions.

Szoboszlai admits he would be lying if he denied that he had been thinking about winning the league.

But while he insists he is not getting carried away, pointing out Liverpool are not over the line yet, he also confessed that he hopes to emulate former Red Bull Salzburg team-mate Erling Haaland by winning the treble one day with the Reds after seeing the Norwegian lift the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in his first season with Man City.

“I’m feeling very good but we didn’t win the league yet,” he said. “We need two more games to go to win it.

“At the weekend we have a hard game away at Leicester. After that, we will focus on the next one.

“But I would lie if I say that we are never thinking about winning the league.

“Time flies, it goes quick. I just look back, we (Haaland and Szoboszlai) played at Salzburg for one year together. Played our first Champions League games there.

“Scoring… He scored a hat-trick, I scored just a goal in the first game. We had a really, really close, good connection outside of the pitch as well. Now, yeah, we are still in contact.

“He plays for City, won the treble. I will not win the treble this year but hopefully in the next years.”

Meanwhile, Szoboszlai also opened up on his relationship with Mohamed Salah, admitting he appreciates every moment on the pitch with the Egyptian – who has recently signed a new two-year contract with the Reds.

“We are really close to each other,” he told Optus Sport when asked about the forward. “Actually, it’s hard to explain how it feels to play alongside him.

“Two years ago I was playing at Leipzig in the Bundesliga. Now playing in almost the best team in the world. It’s unbelievable.

And also playing with these guys who are superstars, I guess in your eyes, but not in ours because we are team-mates. We are not looking at them like you guys are looking at them.

“But of course, we appreciate every moment, what we can do on the pitch with them.”
