Jamie Carragher reckons Liverpool could end up signing £87m striker instead of Alexander Isak from Newcastle this summer

Liverpool may well be in for a new striker in the summer transfer window

Indeed, Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer, and the Reds will need a new number nine

Liverpool have been linked with a number of striking options in recent times.

Alexander Isak has been linked to Liverpool, while Liverpool are keen on Liam Delap as well.

Speaking on It’s Called Soccer, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Liverpool’s potential search for a striker this summer, and he’s suggested that the Reds may go for a young option from the Bundesliga

Jamie Carragher says Liverpool could go for Hugo Ekitike

Carragher spoke about what he thinks Liverpool will do this summer.

The pundit says he can’t see the Reds breaking the bank for a striker like Isak, but he can see the club going for someone like Ekitike, a younger option with big potential.

Ekitike has been valued at £87m recently too

“I don’t think they’ll absolutely break the bank. There’s the lad at Eintracht Frankfurt, who scored against Tottenham. Ekitike, that smacks to me the type of player Liverpool would sign, he’s 22, he’s at a club you think would probably be a selling club. He’s done really well, he went to PSG as a young kid, it didn’t work out for him, but he’s still really young, great numbers this season, he looks to me the type of player Liverpool would sign instead of Isak,” Carragher said

Hugo Ekitike compared to Alexander Isak

Carragher reckons Liverpool could go for Ekitike instead of Isak, and there is plenty of reason to be excited about this potential signing.

Of course, Isak is the bigger name, and he is the better player. After all, Isak is the best striker in the world today according to some.

Isak has even been valued at £200m in some circles.

However, that isn’t to say that Ekitike isn’t an exciting option, as the stats show.

Crucially, Ekitike would also be a cheaper option, albeit still incredibly expensive.

Liverpool have more work to do this summer than just signing a striker. Liverpool need a left back – Milos Kerkez could be an option, while Liverpool wanted a centre-back last summer, but that deal never got done either.

This could be an exciting summer at Anfield, that’s for sure
