Virgil van Dijk has teased when an announcement will be made on his Liverpool future, and Arne Slot will certainly be hoping for some good news from the club’s captain
Virgil van Dijk is set to make an announcement on his future in the coming weeks, and Arne Slot will no doubt be hoping for some good news.
The Liverpool captain is of course set to be out of contract in the summer, and his future is still yet to be decided with only eight games remaining this season. Van Dijk finds himself in the same boat as Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, although the latter looks as though he may have already made his mind up, with a move to Real Madrid looking to be edging closer.
Van Dijk though has now raised hopes that he may be extending his stay at Anfield. Although the defender has insisted he still has “no idea” what his future holds, he has told fans an announcement one way or the other will be coming soon.

Liverpool fans will no doubt take some encouragement from that, and so too might Van Dijk’s boss. Slot has had to field numerous questions over the futures of his captain, as well as Salah and Alexander-Arnold, throughout the season, but with sporting director Richard Hughes taking charge of discussions, the Reds’ head coach has not been able to give much away
He did though make his feelings on Van Dijk perfectly clear last month when the top once again arose.
“The only thing I know is that I want Virgil to be here next season,” Slot said. “The rest is talks about the contract and that is not what I do over here.
