Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for talented Sporting defender Ousmande Diomande, who is expected to be on the move this summer, alongside Tottenham and Newcastle
The Reds’ star centre-back Virgil van Dijk will be a free agent this summer as things stand, and Arne Slot and his entourage have been desperate to convince the 33-year-old about an extended future at Anfield.
However, interest in his services is mounting, and Liverpool are looking to strengthen their defensive options this summer as a result.
Liverpool Chasing Deal for Sporting Ace Diomande
The player has a £67 million release clause
As per the report from TBR Football, Liverpool are fully “versed” on Diomande’s progress, and they could be able to strike a deal with Sporting at a fee below his release in the region of £50 million.
Tottenham are also keen though, and they reportedly have the 21-year-old “very high” on their list of options. Spurs could be looking to add a new defender to their ranks amid fears of Cristian Romero possibly leaving this summer with interest from Atletico Madrid.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are also believed to be in the race. Both Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar are out of contract this summer, which could force the Magpies into the market for a replacement, and a youth talent in the mold of Diomande could pair well with the talented likes of Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento at St. James’ Park.
Labelled an “absolute freak” by analyst Jack Fawcett, Diomande has been a mainstay in Sporting’s defence for two seasons now. This term, he has made 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice in the process. The Ivorian has missed just three games in his entire career thus far in Portugal, and such availability could make him a useful asset in Slot’s squad
