Liverpool look very likely to be in the market for a new left-back during the summer transfer window
The Reds have had little change in the position over the past eight years, with Andy Robertson proving to be incredibly reliable
However, Robertson has dropped off this season and with Kostas Tsimikas set to be put up for sale, a new addition is needed.
For the moment, this has felt likely to come via the transfer window. As Rousing The Kop exclusively revealed on Friday, Antonee Robinson is very high on Liverpool’s list of potential incomings, for example.
Nevertheless, Arne Slot also has options from within the club if he chooses to use them. Owen Beck has been doing brilliantly at Blackburn this season, while Luke Chambers has long been seen as a potential first-team player for Liverpool
And according to U21s coach Barry Lewtas, there is now another young starlet coming through at the Liverpool academy.

It’s clear that if Slot wants to improve his Liverpool squad next season, then bringing in a new left-back is an easy way to do that.
However, Liverpool don’t often do things the ‘easy’ way in the transfer market and if they believe they have a young player who can step up and fill the role, then they may go down that route instead.
And after hearing Lewtas speak about him during an interview with liverpoolfc.com, it’s clear that Ewing is one to keep an eye on in that respect.
The 18-year-old made his U21s debut during the 1-0 win over Stoke City last Friday, and according to Lewtas, he made a real impression
“He was excellent,” raved the coach. “He gave us a really nice balance and then on the right side I felt Isaac Mabaya and Kieran Morrison combined unbelievably well.
“We didn’t have Rio Ngumoha, who was away with England, but there were good signs with Clae and Trent Kone-Doherty down the left. If we can get these combinations to work then hopefully we can have a good finish to the season.”

Given the position he plays, Ewing’s jump from the U18s to the U21s is worth taking note of.
Liverpool are clearly on the hunt for a new option at left-back and perhaps Slot will feel that can come from the academy
Of course, it would take a huge step from Ewing in order to do that. But plenty have done it before him at Liverpool.
In the case of this particular left-back, he has been at Liverpool since U12 level, having signed from Bury.
According to liverpoolfc.com, Ewing is also capable of playing as a more attacking left-sided player. Having been playing for the U18s since the 2023/24 season, he has now made the first step up.
