The 2025 summer transfer window is set to be a busy one at Liverpool
The Premier League leaders have plenty of money to spend after only adding Federico Chiesa to Arne Slot”s squad ahead of the current season
Jamie Carragher would like to see Liverpool sign a defender who can play as a left-back and as a left-sided centre-half, which is an option for the Merseyside club.
A left-back is at the top of the agenda as Liverpool are likely to part ways with Kostas Tsimikas as Andy Robertson looks set to see out his contract at Anfield until 2026.
Should Darwin Nunez leave for Saudi Arabia or another league, a striker will need to be recruited to replace the Uruguayan.
While a centre-back is also on the list of areas Slot would like to strengthen as Liverpool continue to track the progress of Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
Liverpool tracking Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite
Liverpool have shown interest Branthwaite for some time now as the centre-back continues to develop into one of the better defenders in the Premier League.
According to Sky Sports, that interests remains as the Reds have been tracking the Englishman throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
Liverpool will face competition from Man City, Tottenham and Real Madrid should they make a move for the Everton star, while staying with the Blues remians an option.
The report states that Branthwaite would be open to discussing a new contract with Everton, however, the Toffees will face a fight to keep the defender this summer
No negotiations have yet taken place between Everton and Branthwaite about a new deal, although his current contract contains an option to extend it by a further year when it expires in 2027.
As a result, the Merseyside are under no pressure to sell and demanded £80m for the 22-year-old last summer.
Liverpool are unlikely to part ways with this much money for Branthwaite, hence why the Reds have other options on their list.
Fabrizio Romano has stated that Liverpool are actively working on bringing in a new centre-back this summer as it is expected that Joe Gomez may leave the Merseyside club.
Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen is a player Liverpool like and the 19-year-old has an attractive release clause in his current contract that makes a deal easier to get over the line.
RB Leipzig star Castello Lukeba has also been linked to Liverpool recently but the Merseyside club may be turned off by the £74m release clause attached to the defender.
This makes Jorrell Hato an attractive option for Liverpool as the Dutch star may only cost £25m and has the ability to play at left-back aswell as centre-back – which is what Carragher has called for.
The Premier League leaders have options and it will interesting to see which path they go down this summer as Slot looks to remain on top of the English game
