Liverpool survived a surprisingly hard test against Vitor Pereira’s Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Sunday, holding on to a 2-1 win at full-time.
Arne Slot’s side were fairly comfortable in the first half, Luis Diaz was causing Wolves problems and Liverpool looked to be on course for a fairly straightforward win
However, Wolves pressed with more tenacity after the break, and generally had a bit more purpose to their play whilst 2-0 down.
Of course, Matheus Cunha then got Wolves level, a striker who has been linked with more than one top team in the Premier League.
Slot praised Cunha before the game, and the Brazilian changed then game with one superb moment, causing a tense ending for the hosts
Liverpool’s title-rivals Arsenal wanted Cunha in January, and on Sunday’s evidence, it’s probably good news for Slot that they didn’t get him.

That being said, after scoring at Anfield, Cunha had one or two words to say about Liverpool’s quality to BBC Match of the Day after full-time.

Cunha said that he had mixed emotions about the game overall, given that he scored a superb solo strike but Wolves ultimately went home pointless.
He said: “It’s like a mix of sensations. We feel good points today but if we start the game like we did in the second half then we leave with a better result. We need to learn. I hope we get more points.
“Thank you, of course, I’m not completely happy because we didn’t get the points today but I will keep trying my best for the team and to help the guys
We need to believe if we can come here to play like we did against this unbelievable club, they are first in the league. The game is not only 45 minutes, it is 90 minutes and we need to keep this level for the rest of the season.
Virgil van Dijk praises Matheus Cunha’s quality
Interestingly, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk also praised Cunha himself at full-time.
Van Dijk labelled the Brazilian as Wolves’ ‘danger man’ as well as giving a bit of respect to a team that pushed them all the way
Van Dijk said: “We’d love to dominate for the full 90 minutes but it is the Premier League and Wolves can punish you and create dangerous moments against you.
“It says a lot we kept fighting and kept going and got the three points.
“Today showed at times that when we have the ball you can exploit it as well.
“Cunha was a danger man for them today we had to be aware of. Unfortunately he scored but we kept them to that.”
Three good points for Liverpool, and another tricky test passed.
